Joseph and Kendra Duggar boasted about their “trim” bodies in a recent jail call as the disgraced reality star is facing child molestation charges.
In a 20-minute jail call exclusively obtained by Page Six, Joseph revealed to his wife that he “started working out” behind bars.
“I’m doing my burn bootcamp-style workout,” he said with a laugh. “I’m in a 7 by 11 style [cell], figured I might as well do something. Squats, push-ups, dips off the edge of the bed. … I’ve been doing all that kind of stuff.”
He further revealed that he’s “trying not to eat junk” and is focusing on “veggies and proteins.”
“Hopefully I’ll trim up in the process,” he joked, as Kendra said with a laugh, “Oh yeah I’m trimming up, I think. I haven’t gotten on the scale. But I’m feeling a lot trimmer now!”
She added with a giggle, “I’m going to be a skinny mini.”
But Kendra then commented that she is “so weak” and “can hardly walk” from being unable to eat.
Joseph also explained how he feels “encouraged” after reading the bible.
“The first day was really hard for me to read the bible,” he said. “I started reading the bible today. I was anxious feeling this morning, but now I feel really encouraged. I encourage you to read the bible.”
He also explained how a fellow inmate has been throwing a “vulgar” tantrum, as the two giggled over the story.
Kendra went on to praise the Duggar family for their support — despite multiple family members denouncing Joseph on social media.
“Your family is a crazy good support network,” she said. “They are so supportive of me. I am really well taken care of.”
The call then turned romantic, as Kendra told her husband after he complained of the harsh jail conditions, “Aw baby, I am just so sorry. I love you. We’ll see where God takes us through all of this. Hopefully we come back stronger.”
He responded, “I think we will. We’re going to realize how much we need him ultimately. It’s a good place to be. Depending on God is always a good thing.”
She replied, “Aw baby I just needed to hear your voice. I just do. You sound so strong over there. I don’t know how you’re doing it.”
The call was more uplifting compared to a previous one obtained by Page Six.
“I think Friday has probably been my hardest day, but that’s crazy to say because Wednesday was crazy hard,” Kendra told her husband. Kendra is referring to Joseph’s arrest on Wednesday, March 18, while Kendra was detained on Friday, March 20.
During another phone call, Kendra told the “Counting On” alum that their four kids are her main “priority.”
According to the jail calls, it appears their children are in the care of loved ones.
Joseph, 31, was arrested in Arkansas on March 18 for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl.
He was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving a victim younger than the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 or older.
He was extradited to Florida earlier this week and entered a plea of not guilty. He was released on $600,000 bond and has been ordered to not have unsupervised contact with any minors.
The alleged incident happened on a Panama City Beach, Florida, family vacation in 2020.
In the court affidavit obtained by Page Six, Joseph’s suspected victim, who is now 14, told authorities Joseph molested her while on the trip.
Joseph was hit with additional charges out of Arkansas — four second-degree counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, and four second-degree counts of false imprisonment on March 20. Kendra received the same charges and was bonded out after she turned herself in.
They are due back in court for the Arkansas charges in April.
As Kendra stands by her husband’s side, his aunt Deanna Duggar has begged her to divorce him.
Family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar’s sister told Page Six in an exclusive interview, “The way I feel about it is, I think Kendra should divorce him. She needs a new life. The best thing to do would be to divorce him and go on with her life.”
She added, “While my heart goes out to her, I know there has been some wrong decisions. My prayers are for the victims. For Kendra, for Joseph, for the whole family, wake up and repent of their pride, their feeling of the world is against them, get things right in their family…”
Jim Bob and Michelle broke their silence on son Joseph’s arrest in a statement obtained by Page Six, saying they are “heartbroken” over the entire situation.
“Right now, they are focused on loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time,” the statement read in part. “They ask for privacy and appreciate the kind words and prayers offered by so many.”
