LONDON — NATO leaders gathered for a high-stakes summit focused on the evolving security landscape in Eastern Europe, where tensions have escalated significantly in recent months.
Enhanced Defense Posture
The alliance agreed to deploy additional multinational battle groups to frontline states, bringing the total forward-deployed forces to unprecedented levels. Defense ministers also committed to accelerating weapons deliveries and joint training exercises.
The summit's final communique included strong language on collective defense commitments, reaffirming Article 5 obligations and announcing plans for the largest military exercise since the Cold War.
Several member states also pledged to meet or exceed the 2% GDP defense spending target ahead of schedule, signaling a fundamental shift in European security architecture.
