But tears or not, with a finale title like “And That’s Our Time” and a clear closure within the friend group, you’re likely wondering if there will be a Shrinking Season 4…
From the start of the series, co-creator Bill Lawrence said that he envisioned a three-season that would explore three central themes. “It’s grief, forgiveness, and moving forward,” the showrunner told Decider via Zoom. But Lawrence also added, “At the end of the third season, you can say, ‘Hey, are we having fun? Do you want to keep doing this?’ And the cool thing about streaming television is if you go on, it doesn’t mean you’re telling the same story and just beating a dead horse. You can come up with a whole other exciting journey in a different way. I’m having so much fun on this show. I would keep doing it if they let us.”
When asked about a potential Shrinking Season 4 ahead of Season 3, Jason Segel told Decider, “I’m open to anything in my life that feels fun and creatively fulfilling. I’m just trying to do good work — so as long as the work is good. I’m really happy to be there. I feel very, very lucky in my life, about this show, and about my teammates on the show. So, yeah!” And co-creator/guest star Brett Goldstein told Decider, “Listen — we could. I always think if there’s enough great characters and it’s a great environment you could always add more.”

Will There Be A Shrinking Season 4? Or Is Shrinking Over?
Great news, Shrinking stans! On Tuesday, January 27, hours before Season 3’s supersized premiere started streaming, Apple TV announced a rare, incredibly early Season 4 renewal! So even though Paul and Alice are on the East Coast, we haven’t seen the last of the Shrinking fam.
What Will Shrinking Season 4 Be About?
Ahead of Season 3’s finale, co-creator Bill Lawrence teased Season 4 on X, writing, “Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun.”
He also added, “We always pitched a three season story on #Shrinking, grief-forgiveness-moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned.” After “new story” sparked some confusion, the showrunner explained, “I mean that if we came back Season 4 and Jimmy turned to Brian and said ‘I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m STILL really sad about my wife dying’ we’d stop watching along w everyone else. Time jump. New story. Same gang.”
Is Harrison Ford Leaving Shrinking?
Despite the “Same gang” promise, ahead of Shrinking‘s Season 3 finale — and even after it! — viewers couldn’t help but wonder: Is Harrison Ford leaving Shrinking?! Why? Decider went deep on fan fears and shared our thoughts on Ford’s Shrinking future, but the worries mostly stemmed from the fact that Paul retired and moved to Connecticut in the penultimate episode. As we noted above, the finale also offered a clear sense of closure to the season’s running storylines. But new stories await, with Ford! If you worried that Shrinking would move forward without the living legend, fear not! Lawrence assured everyone that “Same gang” means the “Same EXACT cast next year.”
“He is not leaving the show,” Shrinking‘s co-creator stressed. “He’s not going anywhere. Not an accident that Alice goes to college in Connecticut.” The fact that Alice is going to college at Wesleyan University in Connecticut provides tons of bi-costal potential for the series, and as someone who (like Lawrence) is from CT, I can’t wait to see what the show has in store!

Since Shrinking Season 3 is just ending, there’s no official Shrinking Season 4 premiere date on the books right now. But Season 1 premiered in January 2023, Season 2 premiered in October 2024, and Season 3 premiered in January 2026.
