NEW YORK — Some of the biggest names in professional sports came together to launch an unprecedented mental health initiative targeting young athletes, pledging significant financial resources and personal involvement to address a growing crisis.
Program Details
The $50 million initiative will fund counseling services, training programs for coaches and parents, and research into the unique mental health challenges faced by young athletes. Programs will be available in schools and youth sports organizations nationwide.
The athletes shared their own experiences with performance anxiety, burnout, and mental health struggles, hoping to reduce the stigma that often prevents young athletes from seeking help.
Mental health experts praised the initiative, noting that youth sports participation has been linked to both positive outcomes and significant stressors that are often overlooked by the adults in young athletes' lives.
