Sean Payton is one of Aaron Glenn’s mentors.

Glenn both played and coached for Payton and they both share roots as part of Bill Parcells’ coaching tree. So, Glenn tends to draw on lessons he learned from the Broncos current head coach. One of those is not to get caught up in positional value when it comes to the NFL draft.

“I’ve learned this really with Sean Payton. Man, you’ve got to shut out the outside noise,” Glenn said last week at the NFL’s annual league meeting. “Who do you love? If you love the player, go get the player. I truly believe in that. If you love the player, go get him regardless of what everybody thinks, regardless of positional value. If you love the player, go and get him.”

Does that mean the Jets would buck conventional wisdom at No. 2 and take a player who plays a position not considered premium? The Jets met with Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love when they attended his pro day a few weeks ago, taking him to breakfast.
