Candice King and Steven Krueger just made it official — in a ceremony that was a lot smaller (and sweeter) than originally planned.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals alums tied the knot in February at The Chapel at High Point Farm in Tennessee, per Vogue, opting for an intimate, family-only celebration after a major life update shifted their plans.
King, 38, and Krueger, 36, had initially been gearing up for a larger Nashville wedding later this year. But when they found out they were expecting their first child together, they decided to pivot.
“We decided to have a small elopement-style weekend in Nashville with just our immediate families, and save the bigger celebration for sometime next year,” Krueger told Vogue.
In the end, the pared-down guest list made for a pretty perfect day.
“We had 15 people in total, including Candice’s daughters and my two nieces. And it was perfect,” Kruger explained to the outlet, as King added, “The most stressful part was making sure the family felt taken care of and could get from point A to point B — which is true whether you’re eloping with 15 guests or managing a crowd of 200.”
As for what mattered most? The essentials.
“We were ecstatic with how it all came together. We focused on the essential trifecta: photos, flowers, and food,” Kruger continued.
Of course, there were a few challenges along the way — namely, finding the right dress while pregnant.
“Shockingly, there’s not a huge market for wedding dresses that fit over a baby bump,” King joked to Vogue.
“I was quite nervous to find a dress that would make me feel bridal and maternal — and not like the ‘Stay Puft Marshmallow Man’ from Ghostbusters bouncing down the aisle,” she added.
King worked with hair and makeup artist Tarryn Feldman for her bridal look.
The couple’s real-life romance blossomed after working together on The Originals, and they went public with their relationship in December 2023 with a heartfelt Instagram recap.
“I laughed. I cried. I laughed til I cried. I loved. Thanks for the dance 2023 🥂,” King captioned the post at the time.
About a year and a half later, Krueger proposed. King revealed the news in May 2025 — just after her 38th birthday — sharing that they had actually been engaged for “a couple of weeks.”
“I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet 🎂 ♥️,” she wrote. “A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him. The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you. And thank you to everyone for the kind birthday wishes x.”
King was previously married to The Fray guitarist Joe King, with whom she shares daughters Florence and Josephine. The former couple split in 2022 after tying the knot in 2014.
The newlyweds are now preparing to welcome their first child together. King first announced her pregnancy in December, opening up about the joyful — and occasionally amusing — experience.
“We’ve known the news for a while now, and it’s been such a joyful experience getting to surprise and share our happy news with friends and family,” she told People. “I think my daughters were relieved to understand why Mommy was suddenly belching constantly and eating unusual amounts at weird times.”
“We’re due in May, close to my birthday, which would be the best gift ever!” she added. “I can’t wait to grow our beautiful blended family.”
